OUR LIFE / OBEDIENCE

OBEDIENCE

Open to God’s call in our daily lives.

OBEDIENCE

Open to God’s call

To follow Christ, who came to do the will of the Father and who became ‘obedient unto death,’ as members of COLW we offer to God the sacrifice of our will through the vow of obedience, submitting the will to legitimate superiors (cf can 601). Under the maternal guidance of Our Lady, we cultivate an attitude of openness to God’s call in our daily lives, recognising in all legitimate authority as well as in the community of believers, the presence of God.

‘Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done unto me according to your word’ (Luke 1:38).

IN THE CHURCH

A shared life of faith

a) We adhere to the teachings of the Holy Father, the Vicar of Christ, and to the rules of the Catholic Church.

b) We recognise in the local bishop a father who guarantees the authentic growth of the consecrated life of the ecclesial family.

SERVICE AND DISCERNMENT

Authority in the service of unity

We recognise in the servant someone committed to (can. 601):

a) Facilitating discernment in individual and communal situations, capable of making final decisions and assuring their implementation.

b) Exercising an authority conducive to unity, with the obligation to serve the community (Vita Consecrata, 92).

c) Exhorting everyone, first by example, to observe with greater dedication the Rule they have professed and to follow faithfully in the footsteps of the Lord.

d) Ensuring that members have what is needed to grow in the freedom of the children of God and in maturity at all levels.

We recognise in the members of COLW the obligation to accept the final decisions of servants and to obey them (Vita Consecrata, 92).
